See a Spanish author at Edinburgh Book International Festival

Last year culture sections of every Spanish newspaper chose Out in the Open (Intemperie in Spanish) as one of the best novels of the year. It was the debut of a new author, Jesús Carrasco, who had been working in Marketing until this success. The forthcoming edition of the Edinburgh Book Festival will bring you the opportunity of listening to him. The festival brings this year a series of events on translating and he will be discussing about it with the British editor Max Porter.

Out in the Open tells the story of a unnamed boy in a drought-stricken country ruled by violence – possibly the Spanish Civil War? Aclosed world where names and dates don’t matter, where morals have drained away with the water. In this landscape the boy, not yet a lost cause, has the chance to learn the painful basics of judgement, or to live out forever the violence with which he grew up.

We strongly recommend this dry and difficult at moments book, autere on its language, its actions and its descriptions. Behind all these elements there’s a fantastic novelist who has been compared with Cormac McCarthy – and when you red this novel, you’ll understand why.

You can buy here tickets for the event.
