The Guardian newspaper recently published a selection of places to visit in Madrid – a very nice selection but also a bit touristic in our opinion. Here are another three suggestions if you are planning to travel to the capital of Spain.
Croquetas at Casa Julio – lovely with ham and chicken.
Casa Julio’s (always full, go early, that means: go for dinner at UK time) are maybe the best and they offer a huge selection of types (spinach, morcilla, cheese with sultanas…).
Casa Julio, Madera, 37 Madrid, 28004. Closed on Sundays.

Breakfast: the best Spanish breakfast includes three types
1. Churros, which are delicious with chocolate, but this option is better for “merienda” (tea time).
2. Bread with tomato and olive oil. Coffee is the best company for them.
3. Pincho de tortilla and café con leche.
Where can you try these? Everywhere. And if you go to somewhere and they don’t have these options, we are sure that you are not in Spain.
A musical
Yes, a musical. Why not see one? Who needs to understand what Simba says when everybody has seen The Lion King a million of times? All reviews remark how big it is which came straight from Broadway.
Teatro Lope de Vega. Gran Vía, 57. Check on their website times and prices
